ITINERARY
Our day trip to Essaouira from Marrakech begins at 08:30 AM with a departure from your hotel. First, we will travel west towards Essaouira, passing through the city of Chichaoua and Ounagha. An optional visit to the wine factory highly possible.
As we approach the town of Ounagha, you’ll be greeted by the sight of trees filled with strange dark and white shapes. At this point, you will soon realize that these shapes are goats. They perch implausibly on the highest and most delicate-looking branches, reaching for the fruit of the Argan trees. This unusual sight marks the first stage of a process that powers the local economy. Next after passing through the goats, the fruits of the argan trees are left with a hard, indigestible core. This nut is cracked, crushed, and roasted to extract argan oil, which is used for everything from cooking to beauty treatments.
Along the way to Essaouira from Marrakech, you’ll pass numerous cooperatives where women work to produce oils sold throughout Morocco and beyond.
